copper – Nouvelle Chicane

Nouvelle Chicane is working with copper tubing, brass rod, stainless steel, stainless braided cable and titanium. The material combinations are limitless as is our imagination.

Presently, copper provides us the most interesting design space. We polish it to a gleaming shine for some frames, but for others we will encourage a patina. This invokes an accelerated oxidation technique we developed in our studio. The patina gives a beautiful greenish blue color and granular texture detail. In the last 6 months Nouvelle Chicane has incorporated copper into their eyewear frames. The copper serves as a structural element in the Maestoso. The copper trusses can be extended or compressed to ideally fit the frame to the customer. Rake and pitch too can be adjusted for fine tweaks. This creates a floating space frame structure.
